Thanks to fee-free banking, Amplify will never charge members to use an out-of-network ATM. Still, there is a chance you may be charged operator fees by the ATM owner. In this article, we explain the components of ATM fees and how Amplify members can get reimbursed for debit card transactions.

Key Takeaways:

  • Amplify will never issue a charge for using out-of-network ATMs.
  • You may still be charged an operator fee by the ATM owner.
  • You can avoid operator fees with our ATM reimbursement program. This program only applies to fees issues on checking accounts.

How do ATM fees work?

When an ATM charges you a fee for withdrawing money, that fee is comprised of two separate penalties: out-of-network fees and operator fees.

  • Your financial institution may charge an out-of-network fee for using an ATM that they do not own.
  • The machine owner may also charge an ATM Operator Fee each time a customer withdraws money.

Does Amplify charge ATM fees?

As part of our commitment to fee-free banking, Amplify no longer charges out-of-network fees on ATM transactions. That means you can use an ATM operated by anyone – such as a restaurant, mall, or even another financial institution – without being penalized by Amplify. That said, Amplify has no control over the operator fees associated with an ATM. You may still be charged a small fee on your transaction.

Can I get operator fees reimbursed?

Amplify offers an ATM reimbursement program that will reimburse qualified members up to $12 a month in operator fees. This program only applies to ATM transactions made from your checking account – not withdrawals from your savings account.

To be eligible for our ATM reimbursement program, you must have an active checking account and maintain monthly deposits of at least $1,000. This minimum deposit amount will also qualify you for Rebound, Amplify’s overdraft protection program. Visit the Rebound page in Ask Amplify to learn more.

How do I avoid operator fees altogether?

You can avoid operator fees by visiting an Amplify branch or choosing an ATM in our free Austin-area ATM network. Visit the Alliance of Austin Credit Union websites to find a participating ATM near you.
