In 2025, Amplify members who use Zelle® will see that platform undergo some pretty significant changes. In this article, we will update you on the decision by Zelle® to sunset their standalone app and explain how Amplify will help members navigate these changes.

Key Takeaways:

  • Starting on April 1, 2025, Zelle® will no longer allow users to send or receive money through the standalone app. Zelle® will only be available through online banking integrations for banks and credit unions that partner with Zelle®.
  • To transfer money to customers of other financial institutions, Amplify members can connect their Amplify account to platforms like Apple Cash, Google Pay, Venmo, Cash App, and PayPal.
  • You can speak with an Amplify representative either in-person or online for assistance with replacing any existing Zelle® payments.

Why will Zelle® no longer work with Amplify?

Earlier this year, Zelle® quietly announced that it would be discontinuing service for its standalone app. Zelle® will only be available as an online banking integration with partner banks and credit unions.

As a result, Zelle® users will no longer be able to send or receive money using the Zelle® app starting on April 1, 2025.

Since Amplify is not integrated with Zelle®, this means members will no longer be able to transfer money using Zelle® as a third-party platform. For more information, please visit the Zelle® help center at www.zellepay.com.

Why doesn’t Amplify offer a Zelle integration?

While Zelle® continues to grow in popularity, there are risks associated with real-time payments that must be addressed before Amplify chooses an integration partner.  In December 2024, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau filed a lawsuit alleging that Zelle® users were subject to over $870 million in fraud over the past seven years, raising serious concerns about the security of our members’ savings.

Our team continues to research real-time payment options, and we hope to move towards a solution that balances both speed and security in equal measure.

Does Amplify work with other payment apps?

If you do prefer to make payments using third-party platforms, don’t worry: most peer-to-peer payment apps can be connected to Amplify using your debit card or checking account information. This includes platforms like Apple Cash, Google Pay, Venmo, PayPal, and more. To learn how to manage those payments, visit this article in the Amplify help center.

Can Amplify help me transition my existing Zelle® payments?

At Amplify, we pride ourselves on helping our members get the most out of our financial products and services. If you would like to sit down with an Amplify banker to discuss the best way to address your current Zelle® usage, visit the Amplify branch nearest you, or schedule an online appointment with our virtual bankers.
