On Monday, April 5, Amplify Credit Union will permanently close the University Commons branch of Amplify Credit Union. In anticipation of this, our team has created several resources - including this FAQ - that will ensure a smooth transition for our members.

Key Takeaways:

  • Amplify is scheduled to close our University Commons location in April 2021.
  • We will continue to offer in-person banking services by appointment only at our La Frontera location in Round Rock.
  • We also encourage members to visit our new How To Bank Online page to learn how to make the most of their Amplify experience.

Why Are We Closing University Commons?

In March of 2020, we temporarily discontinued service at our University Commons branch as part of our COVID-19 response plan. As a result of this and other service changes during the pandemic, we also increased investment in our digital services to support our members. We've used these past few months as an opportunity to analyze our transaction patterns and found that many of our Georgetown and Round Rock members could meet their service needs through a combination of online banking and in-person services at our La Frontera location (located less than six miles south of our University Commons branch).

Did Financial Issues Necessitate the Closing?

As a credit union, we are audited by the National Credit Union Association (NCUA) on an annual basis. When the 2020 audit was completed, we received a high rating for both financial safety and financial soundness for our members. Therefore, our decision to close the University Commons branch is rooted in our desire to (re)allocate our resources where they can do the most good for our members, not because of a lack of funds.

What Options Are Available To Access My Accounts?

While some may choose to take their business to our La Frontera location, we encourage all Amplify members to explore the options available to them in online and mobile banking. That is why we recently created a new How To Bank Online page for our members. From mobile check deposit to online mortgage quotes, this page will explain how some of the most common branch transactions can be handled from the comfort of your own home.

How Long Will Your ATM Be Available?

The final day for ATM service at our University Commons branch will be Sunday, February 28. We encourage members to either visit our La Frontera location for ATM services or visit the Amplify Credit Union website to find the surcharge-free ATM nearest them.

What Is the Nearest Location I Can Use?

Our La Frontera branch, now open by appointment only to the public, is located six miles south at 15 Sundance Parkway. We are also working to open our Cedar Park branch to appointments within the next several months. You can also take advantage of our shared branch locations and ATMs by visiting our Amplify Credit Union Branches and ATMs page in Help Center. As a reminder, these shared branch locations will allow you to perform basic transactions and access fee-free ATMs.

Does Amplify Have Future Plans for Round Rock and Georgetown?

At this time, we do not have any plans to open a new branch in the North Round Rock and Georgetown area. That said, we remain open to all opportunities in the future and regularly review our capacity for in-branch services within Central Texas. As a digital-first credit union, we also continue to make regular improvements to our online and mobile experiences, and provide educational resources here in the Help Center (and elsewhere) to help you make the most of those channels.
