To protect your accounts from fraudulent activity, Amplify Credit Union monitors your transaction activity to identify uncharacteristic purchases. Our commitment to fraud detection is why we encourage our members to set a travel alert online if they plan to use their Amplify card(s) outside of the primary market. In this section, we'll explain how to set a travel alert online or by contacting our team.
Key Takeaways:
- Avoid having your travel expenses be labeled as fraudulent by setting up an Amplify travel notice.
- Members can add or change a travel plan by using our card control features located in online banking.
- Members who have not enabled card controls can also leave a secure message in online banking with upcoming travel details.
What is a travel notification?
One of the easiest ways to identify fraud is location. If you live in Austin but are suddenly racking up charges on your account in Ireland, this tells the security department at the credit union that your personal information may have been compromised. To avoid having your business trip or family vacation flagged as fraudulent activity, financial institutions like Amplify encourage members to notify them of your upcoming travel plans.
How do I set up a travel notification?
The best way to set a travel notification is through our card controls features available in online banking. Follow the steps below to access your features for the first time:
- Click Menu.
- Click Card Controls under the Debit Cards & Alerts dropdown menu.
If you have previously enabled card controls for your debit card, your card should automatically appear on the screen. If you have not turned on card controls, you can add your debit card directly from the card controls screen.
Once you have enabled our card control features, you can access additional debit card options, including our self-service travel plans feature. Adding or updating your travel plans can be done from anywhere.
- Members can have up to two active travel plans at a time.
- You can select up to 15 different locations in each travel plan.
If you would like to learn more about enabling card controls in online banking, check out our Ask Amplify article.
What if I have not enabled card controls?
If you do have not card controls enabled, you can also set a travel notice by chatting with an Amplify team member in online banking.
- Log into online banking on your desktop or mobile device.
- Click the chat icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
- Provide the requested information to our contact center representative.
You can also submit a travel notice to our team outside of normal business hours through our secure messages feature.
- Click Secure Messages in the online banking menu.
- Click on the pencil icon to create a new message.
- Choose Member Service as the message recipient from the dropdown menu.
- Type "Travel Notice" as the message subject, and enter your information in the Message field below.
Your travel notice should include the dates of your trip. If you are traveling domestically, please include the state and city to which you will be going. If traveling internationally, please include the country you will be visiting in your travel notice. The more information you can provide about your itinerary, the easier it will be to verify your purchases as authentic.
Can I set up a travel notification offline?
If you would prefer not to use online banking, you can also set a travel notification by calling our customer service team directly at (512) 836-5901 or toll-free at (800) 237-5087. As always, please be prepared to provide personal information before any changes to your account can be processed.
